Languages: English & Spanish
Room: 350
Domestic workers have been reclaiming their rights through organizing and campaigning all around the world. The objective of this workshop is to tell some of the success stories on how they have been able to win their rights. The basics of success are organizing and mobilizing of domestic workers and alliance-building. The trick is how to sustain what we do until victory comes. This workshop will look at 3 succesful examples of domestic worker organizing globally and talk about what lessons we can learn that could be applied in our own communities: 1) Mexico: Ratification of ILO Convention 189 and Social Security for Domestic Workers; 2) South Africa: Inclusion of Domestic Workers in Occupational Health and Safety Law; 3) Philippines: Uplifting the Minimum Wage for Domestic Workers.
