SUMMARY:Domestic Worker Coops 101
DESCRIPTION:Languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese
Room: 204
A worker owned cooperative is a business that is owned and democratically controlled by the workers themselves. Each cooperative member is a legal owner of the business, shares decision-making and management of the co-op, and receives a share of the businesses profits. Across the US, there are many homecare, childcare, and housecleaning co-ops, where domestic workers are running their own cooperative businesses. In this workshop you’ll hear from 3 NDWA affiliate organizations that have domestic worker co-ops. Come learn more about what a co-op is, how these 3 co-ops got started, and important considerations if your organization in interested in exploring starting your own co-op.
