SUMMARY:Disrupting Ableism: Deepening Solidarity between Caregivers and Employers with Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:Languages: English & Spanish
Room: 352
People with disabilities experience discrimination, exclusion, and vulnerability because of the way our society devalues and dehumanizes disability – this system is called ableism. Domestic workers – especially caregivers, homecare workers and home attendants – play a critical role in providing support to people with disabilities and seniors to be able to live with dignity in their homes and communities. Domestic workers often also develop disabilities as a result of their work. Understanding ableism and concepts of disability justice helps workers (and their employers with disabilities) better understand their shared experiences and common interest in ending ableism. Join our workshop to learn about Hand in Hand, our work to combat ableism, and the intersections across our movements for domestic workers rights and disability justice!
